The land of Athnan is divided by the Great River, with the warmer, arid climate in the south and the alpine and cold parts in the north. Check out some of the spots highlighted below, and on the map, to learn about the geography of Athnan and the people and places there.
The Great Southern Desert- The Great Southern Desert is home to nomadic tribes. The greatest and most powerful are those of warlords Ramel Malik and Barak Qawin. Back in the early days of Athnan the planet was more fertile and many wild grasses and grains grew in the south. However, the cooling of the environment and droughts of the caused the once lush grasslands to turn into a nearly inhospitable land. Its large and desolate landscape is mostly covered in light brush, and in some areas, miles upon miles of nothing but pure sand. Man and beast keep close to the sanctuary of the river as often as possible.
The Red Canyons - On the fringes of the southern edges of known civilization, the majestic, wild ravines, and towering chasms are home to the people of the House of Bethsaida. Spectacular geysers and waterfalls make this perhaps the most beautiful country in Athnan. Renowned for its hunting community, the land has resilient, but few natives.
New Normandy The Kingdom of New Normandy is located in the central north of Athnan. It was originally founded by the men of Goodwood. The western and southern boundaries are the Great Forest and the river that separates the north from the rest of Athnan. Most of the country is lush grasslands and moors. Perhaps the most unique landmark is the lake in the very middle of the kingdom. The castles of Northford and the king's capital fortress near Goodwood are the two bulwarks of security for this realm.
The Fire Mountains- The Fire Mountains are the largest mountain range in all of Athnan. Legend says the huge ancient peeks used to be the home of dwarves, but now are infested with dragons. The mountains are volcanic and occasionally explode into violent eruptions.
The Lake- Located in the northwest lands of Athnan, the largest body of fresh water on the planet is simply known, by nearly all peoples and cultures as The Lake. The huge water mass is fed from rivers farther north on Mt. Morferous and drains into the Great River. Deep and dark, and shrouded in legend, The Lake is greatly feared, especially by the Trolls of the North.
